Magic Padlocks

Posted on December 7th, 2011 , by charley

We've all wondered how magicians have completed their tricks, especially those who get us, the audience, to check out what they’re using to make sure it’s not a fake or dud piece of equipment.  Especially when it’s something as normal as a padlock, we check it to make sure that everything is working as normal and nothing seems wrong.  But yet, when it comes to the time the magician will turn an everyday padlock into a magical illusion.

But there may be more to this magic than you think, as most of the padlocks are bought and made especially for its use to bewilder the audience.  All normal looking to the human eye, they could have special modify locking brackets that help the magician unlock it and possibly escape the routine that they are performing.

Many of these tricks with padlocks involved the magician being tied up and having to escape without injury or harm.  Other tricks could include the audience participation in which the magician would want some willing member of the audience to check that the equipment that he was about to use wasn't fake.

With the way that some of these padlocks are modified, I wouldn't want to be using it on my garden shed or when I've parked my bike and locked it up to a lamp post.  Who knows, a magician could come along and crack the code and take all of your possessions.

But there are many different types of padlock that you can choose from depending on the job you wish it for.  All of these are modified and made especially for their use of locking this up and away, they are not made to show people that you can do a quick magic trick.

Although, if Houdini was still around nowadays he would use a bike chain lock to tie up the sack that he would hide himself in, and show his incredible escape routine.
